Sand blasting Vs Acid dipping

as someone suggested on my other topic about the cav ST, I have been looking at diff companies that do offer the service. But whilst I was talking to a chap, he mentioned to me about Sandblasting instead of acid dipping.

He said that in the case of a car, sand blasting is much better as if you get acid in hold and .. and can't be washed out competely, then it will rot the chasis and ....

But I am not expert in this field, so any help/pointers/suggestions will be appreciated.

What are the pros and cons of both acid dipping and the Sand blasting? Which is recommended?

He quoted me £300 for Sand blasting of the whole car and about £100-150 for primering the car.

Is this sound ok or is it too little meaning the job is not gona be good at all?

Cheers

Acid dipping gets rid of everything (rust, dirt, paint the lot) from everywhere on the chassis, sand blasting only gets rid of whats on the surface, also leaves you with a pitted surface all over, try getting it bead blasted (costs more) but its much easier on the panels and leaves a smooth finish! If it cleaned out properly after acid dipping them it should be fine, as it should be etch primed afterwards!!

Price sounds about right for sand blasting and primering, make sure the car gets cleaned before it gets primed as the sand blasting leaves dust all over!!

The comments on acid dipping are not correct, the chassis is dipped in a nutraliser then clean water a couple of times after it has been in the acid.

You then have the whole thing dipped into a big vat of zinc-primer.

I sand blaster my Corsa shell and it can only get rid of the surface rust and rot.
Acid dipping will remove everything behind the panels, inside the chass etc BUT then will need dipping in Zinc Primer.

Acid Dipping then Zinc Primering is alot better BUT cost alot more

Also look for companies that can blast different materials.

One company i saw used crushed walnuts/shells to blast old jags, and astons, as they are less harsh, and give less pitting.

I assume your aware then they used to run a Calibra Turbo in the Castle Coombe saloon car championship? I was going to mention that in your other thread on the BTCC cav actually.

It wasn't them that ran the car. It was a bloke called ' John Moon' who raced the calibra.

I know john and he was selling the calibra for £10k, but I think its a bit too much for what it is! awesome car, that was an ex works rally calibra.

So how much does it roughly cost for the surface pocessing to do it? I need ot know the rough price until I speak to them next week? We talking about couple of grand or less?

Cheers

Less than a couple of grand mate.

There is a few different stages that they offer so best call them and see what costs what.

Mine was done by them through the company prepping my shell, I believe Keith Robinson on here is using them will probably know what the normal costs are
