Are Cat D cars marked on the log books?

    Any gen?

Just had a log book through for a car and nothing on it.

I know VIC checks are recorded and stated on the log book, being cat D it didn't have one.

    Any gen?

    Cheers - Paul

I knew about it not needing a VIC check, but still thought it would say something on the V5.

You don't have to get the log book changed, but if you have it repaired and inspected you can get it reregistered as Damaged and Repaired like CAT Cs have to be.

Otherwise it just stays as a Writeoff.

I've got 2 CAT Ds, but I've never bothered to get them inspected.

i think you have to have it inspected if it has had structural damage which often means it is cat c so i have been told

But thats not the question. The question is ; does it state on the V5 that car has been in an accident if cat d. Again the answer is no.

all cars that have been damaged and given a catagory rating ie; cat d, c etc, are all registered, so if someone hpi's the car it will show on the report, but i dont know if it shows on the log book, i know cat d isnt on log book

Thanks but I know the above, and we have concluded that the log book is not marked for cat D's

Unless you get it inspected and reregistered as damaged and repaired.

    you don't need to though.

Some people won't buy a Car that's just recorded as a write off.

At least when it's registered as damaged and repaired you get some piece of mind it's been done properly.

My car was an insurance write off, when some idiot hit the back and dented the boot floor. I repaired the damage and it's fine now.

It was in my GF's name at the time. I decided to be a bit more legit and put it in my name, so sent off the log book with me as new keeper. However I got a letter from the DVLA saying that before they would issue the log book I would have to have the car VIC checked. It costs £30 so obviously I haven't bothered, and probably never will. Will there be any repurcussions?

If it's CAT C you need a VIC check to ensure it's not a cut and shut repair, or a ringer.

Without a V5 you can't get Tax or new style MOT.

Yeah didn't think of that. They need the logbook for the MOT don't they. Tax isn't a problem though as you can do it online with just the number from the tax reminder.
