Im very soon after getting a mk3 gsi turbo but looking at the prices of them compared to a good cali turbo theres like a £1000 difference in price, I know the cali has 4x4 meaning it would acually move on set off rather than just spin but arnt the transfer boxes weak on them?, Are the mk3 astra's worth paying the extra grand for being slower or are they acually faster plus the astras are quite rare to get hold of a good one. Looks i prefer the astra and the fact they are smaller too. Ive not got loads of money so cant afford paying out loads, is the tax any different too. I need help with choosing shed some light please.
I can afford both cars just not to be paying stupid prices for transfer boxes and all 4 new tyres if one of them get punctured you know stuff like that, The astra would spin quite easily meaning the front tyres would have to be replaced often. im not as botherd with speed over 100mph because thats banning material. The thing is the bird wants to look into a house in a few years so i want one of these fast things before i go in dept forever. Plus the insurance is quite cheap.
What is the handling like on the calibra compared to the astra then, big difference. Over all would it be worth paying a grand extra for an astra to save money on replaceing 4 tyres all the time and other stuff?
Thats entirely optional. You could drive it like a Grandad with a short right leg if you wanted.
I'd say the Astra should prove cheaper to run & maintain + your Mrs wont have to worry about all the underage chavsluts a Calibra would net you.
where is Chavtastic?
When i see a car i like im gettin an AA inspecter to have a look so i know i wont be buying somethin thats fooked. I dont wanna drive it like a grandad but i wont be screwing it everywere thats for sure. So the ladys like calibras yes cool, From what i have heard the astra sounds like the better option, shame there hard to get hold of but i will keep a look out, anymore opinions welcome and thanks for peoples help. Im sure there will be a few good runners about.
Calibra Turbo transfer boxes are fine if looked after. Many do 160k+ and outlive the cars they are in. Second hand boxes go for £50.
~155mph standard, 0-60mph in 6.2, and will do about the same in the wet. No wheelspinning bollocks. Get a late one, 1995 onwards and it will be galvanised body, loads of toys, leather, closer ratio steering and bigger brakes than any other Vaux. Can't beat them for value, other vauxhalls don't even come close.
last vectra GSI's have bigger brakes than a cally turbo, and show me one that will do 60 in 6.2 seconds standard LOL
I paid £1650 for my Mk2 astra GTE turbo, 17,s LSD etc. I will spank a calibra turbo, even a tuned one. Bargain astra turbos are out there you just have to look, no gay 4wd and tyre worries etc. As an example I have owned about 35 calibra turbos, 5 out of the 35 had working TX boxes. Seats are useless compared to proper hatch "recaro" seats, and the are boats, they do not handle anywhere near as well as chav seems to think they do lmao
This is who i was gonna get do it, it looks like the check most things http://www.dekra-assured.com/daplusfull.asp
How much would you want for yours out of intrest coolmaster,
Im expecting them to find a few lickle faults which is fair enough for the age of the car just as im not clued up on these kind of cars just peace in mind ive a good one. I once had a nova 1.3sr i wont tell you the whole story but i had it 3 months, 2 weeks it was on the road and not in a garage on its second engine which soon when bang, liike the original which was tuned up to death but it must have been ragged i paid £750 for the fooker it evan broke down twice on the motorway on the way home, he had done a reciet sold as seen so i couldnt do anything. Basically i think its worth paying £200 when spending 3k+ on a car.
Something i else i would like to know, from people who have/had an astra turbo would you say a quaife L.S.D is needed for one of these or not to much difference with or without one.
im still after a mk3 astra turbo mate!!
could not find a good one around so opted for a s reg gsi instead till next year when are sell it and get one!!
i done the opposite mate i split from mrs sold are house and went back to me fun years again ie getting another gsi and living back at parents!! and being det free also
good luck finding one bud!!!
i looked for a while and could never find what i wanted but maybe next year??
fingers crossed!!!
It can indeed be corrected, lowered calibra handles about 1million times better than my corsa ever did, so i assume it would be better than a fwd astra.
Camber rectifiable with bushes that adjust, TXB's are £30 or so these days anyway
Where can you buy the adjustable kits from? I've told my mate not to bother getting his TX box replaced as it will just overheat and die again with the suspension the way it is. Ai, does handle very nicely on suspension set up it has.
Im thinkin the calibra might be better for me then, In the dry the astra will spin into 3rd so wouldnt like to think what they are like in the wet. And the calibra wouldnt spin at all that would mean better set offs, Would there be any chance of a 1.6 astra beating me off the line in an astra turbo because of the spinning? Im not one for going over 100 to much cos i would get fooked if i got caught so i would like more speed 0-100 say, the astra would only be faster on the motorway am i right?
No you'd learn to drive it over time and do around 5-6secs 0-60 in a traffic light GP. If you can't control it you need a slap lol. My first Nova LET did 0-100 in 11secs so traction isnt impossible, just have to learn how to apply the power instead of ****ing the accelerator to the floor.
