    Im A Dubber Again!

probably get lynched for posting this one here but ive recently found myself wanting another mk2 golf as i have always loved them and i wish id never sold my first one. the plan was to get one around xmas time or just after. well things never go to plan and today i have been all the way near dover to have a look at a H reg Mk2 16v in atlas grey. the guy had it up for £450 ono with 6 months mot and a stack of history which was stupidly cheap!! so to cut a long story short i bought the car today for the princely sum of £425 and will be picking it up on saturday.

Love the mk2 golfs. Di the 16v ones not need 4* petrol?! Or have they been modified to accept the U/L?

I'd hope they were OK for unleaded from the factory - Beetles were from the 1940's onwards if I remember correctly

im pretty sure theyre fine on unleaded. i used to run my 88` 8v golf gti on it no probs.

as for the 16v being quick, all il say is that they are pokey ish but compared to the astra 16v i had its a no contest, the astra would eat it. although 139bhp as standard isnt bad

sure not gonna miss the dreaded vaux breakdowns i have to say!! although a nova turbo project in the future sure hasnt been ruled out, either that or id like a champ mk2 astra.

Good cars good build quality. Clutch is easy to do its just getting the box back on thats a bitch lol. Definietly Change the standard the oil shocks there probably gone, they'll probably fall apart once you take them apart make sure you have a bucket handy.

i had bilstein yellows and h&r 40mm springs great drive handled brilliant or eibach springs one or the other great combo. As for the power out put of the engines the more mileage they have the more power they produce, i had 155,000 on mine and was dyno'd at 153hp with 140 something of touqe 1/4 in 16.18. If you want the induction noise take the trumpet pipe out of the airbox and use a panel filter.
Check the injectors there might have gone, just take them out turn the engine over and look at the the way the fuel jets out. You'll find a pic in the haynes or on the net somewhere of what to look for. Dont buy vw injectors if there gone, buy mercedes injectors instead they have better flow and made of brass not steel like vw ones & there only 26quid each clubgti.com has info on them.

Check if the the gear stick is sloppy & if reverse goes in ok sometimes synchros go but it could just be the plastic bushes that are gone buy kits off ebay or eurocarparts. Engine wise go for the 2.0 16v bottom (9a audi block or the newer 2.0's cant remember the code) end the 1.8 head is good for flow straight off, the 2.0 head needs machining to better the 1.8's flow. The newer engine get rid of the mechanical k-jetronic fuel injection which is good as the its a git to setup best off dynoing it if you have trouble. theres a place in warickshire that are well known on the vw forums, i took mine there to be setup when i put the injectors in 5 runs and a setup for 55quid bargain cant remembe the bloody name of them .

I wouldnt mind getting another one someday hope you have fun with it.

Looks like a good find there. Nice & tidy. Would love to have a minter mk2 in my fleet. Hard to choose between these & mk2 Astras but I do love the styling of the Astra but you cant deny the VW is responsible for so many modded cars & inspiration behind many more. The VW scene is so well catered for.
