z18xe, how do you rate them?

been looking at mk4 astra coupes recently and just wondering what the 1.8 engine is like? is it still timing belt? heard bad stories about the 2.2 with the timing chain. what power's in them and how reliable are they? thanks for any help

125bhp, considered nippyish in the Corsa, although I think in the Astra they have a short ratio box? Not 100%

Don't think there's major issues with reliability either

Works well in the AstraG Estate I have.

the F17 is rather close ratio, so it revs quite high on the motorway.

Similar performance to the 2.0 Ecotec MK3 Estate.

It does sound like a toy engine though!

So much smaller sounding than the 2.0.

The earlier 1.8 (X18XE1) is 115BHP, so look for the 2001 on version.

£4000 for a 2001 astra is not a bloody good price, its above average as with ALL autotrader prices.
