what causes this to happen? you know when they nail it they pop and bang.

Because they are essentially "misfiring" as part of a launch or antilag sequence.

oh rite, but wouldnt that be a danger to the engine?
Yes it IS a danger to the engine, but a managed one.
Over revving the engine wheelspinning and hitting the limiter also does it no good though.
antilag is PARTICUARLY nasty to turbos though.

Isn't the idea of it, so the explosion causing the bang happens before the turbo, in essence causing it to spool faster / more getting the boost up higher and faster?
The idea of it is mainly to make the engine far less effiecient by retarding the timing massively so the turbo can still spin without the engine over revving due to the amount of air its consuming.
its all very nasty when you have anti lag going though cause the explosion happens in the head and manifold and causes massive amounts of heat around the valves/head/turbo

Ps
Depends on how aggressive it is though, there are many differnet "levels" of antilag.

Potential need for deep pockets and a friendly bank manager then!
that wee civic with the fat slicks was a prime example. it popped and banged all the way up the track. thought it was the traction control doinits job

Antilag is what your hearing.....the map has shed loads of advance on idle creating higher cylinder pressures and bringing the turbo on "spoolup" even though the car ain't moved.... something like that anyway....lmaoOriginally Posted by Scoobler

Im wrong then lmao - thought it were advancedOriginally Posted by chip

lol, so antilag stops lag on the turbo? i dont know a lot about turbo's
yip boost gauge reading positive pressure with the car stood still

I think some of that was down to some kind of primitive traction control system tbh. Didn't work though lmao lmao they might aswell have tried to drag race the car on ice for all the good it did.Originally Posted by rodgerq

Optimum power on that surface for a FWD car seemed to be about 400bhp really!

hi, dont know if this means anything, or my engine isnt set up properly,
but iv got a nove gsi C16se and when i toe it and then change gear, it pops and bangs.
it was like this when i got it so dont know what the engines got done to it.
but it dose go quite well for a 1.6 and iv had a crapply times 0-60 in about 7. any idears lads.
is it time for a rolling road and a set up or should i not fix whats not broke.
