    Nurburgring insurance

    Hiya,
i'm off to the ring in a couple of weeks but my insurance company (Greenlight) does not cover this.

Just wondered how many people have the same problem and who they use for insurance, and are you still allowed on there without??
Also how much am i likely to pay for 2 drivers for 2 days please?

Last thing.... any other essentials worth mentioning that i should take with me. Really looking forward to this trip but don't want to forget anything obvious!

    Cheers

i went for the rac over seas insurance they wont cover you crashing on the nurburging ring but just get the recovery truck from the nurburging ring to drop your car outside and the rac will pick it up and take it back to england if its undriveable and i think they offer a cover car

hmm, 'just get the recovery truck to drop your car outside' huh??

if you do this you will be charged nearly 300 euros!!! ADAC are the people responsible for removing all vehicles from the 'ring and unless you have cover with them(available for around £40) then you will be charged the removal fee

and yes, you need insurance to drive on the ring, it is a public road, in germany you can be jailed for not having your documents on you, let alone having no insurance at all

if i were you i'd have a good read of ben lovejoys site, he has lots of good info for newbies

    http://nurburgring.org.uk/index.html

i would strongly reccomend anyone going uses ADAC for their recovery though, the RAC are a bit rubbish if you have a bump, and will want the car independantly inspected by a german assesor before they let it leave the country, as they like to asses if its worth bringing it back or not as they factor the recovery costs into it, ADAC do not, they just bring it home to you

Its a road, unless its EXPLICITLY excluded on your policy, then its covered.

If you crashed there, i suspect tehy woudl cover the cost of the barriers, but not your car without a fight

Their third party liability isnt something they can talk their way out of and NO insurance company who issues a greencard has ever got out of paying up at the ring, i know this from what the ring officials told me when i crashed there.

insured or not, unless you're with ADAC you will be charged the full bannana for removal from the track, so its worth going with them imo

they are based in germany but are a europe wide company, there is a link on that site i linked to

as for all insurance companies covering it unless they have a specific get out, well most of them do!! i know for a fact AA and RAC insurance have a line in the small print that just says, 'cover not valid on the nordschliefe, germany' so its worth checking imo

Cheers Lee, had a good read through the site and also about ADAC.

Are you able to join once there? Or is the only way, how it states on the website? If i have to fax the details over will i become a member in time?

    Regards

yeah, the fax method is the only way, works well though, and as long as you've sent your application and cheque you are automatically covered even if the docs dont reach you in time
