How much does a GTE weigh?

I've been looking around everywhere for this and maybe someone can finally answer it.

When you look at the VIN plate in the engine bay it says 1,495kg (I think) but some people say it weighs less than a tonne? The review I have states 135bhp/tonne which makes it about 1,155kg.

So how much does a GTE really weigh?

This one came up a while ago and there seems to be no definate answer. From what I remember it's a lot closer to 1000kg than 1500kg (as you'd imagine). Something like 1100kg rings a bell?

I'll have a look in the handbook, but I think it's very model dependant.
    1.3 5dr = 880Kg,
    1.8 Sri = 940 or something
    2L 8v = 1050Kg maybe
    2L 16 = 1100Kg if I remember correctly.

Is that correct? According to the original manufacturer brochure, the Nova GTE weighs in over 900Kg

the VIN plates show max laden weight, not kerb weight.

the valvers ranged from about 980kg (early jobbers) to 1040kg (latest ones) - champion ones were a tad more probably.

the weights are in Haynes I think.

Right, according to haynes book of lies! Here we go :-

    Kerb weight:
    Hatchback

    1.2 litre models.................. 830 to 865 kg
    1.3 litre models.................. 845 to 915 kg
    1.4 litre models.................. 865 to 900 kg
    1.6 litre models.................. 885 to 975 kg
    1.8 litre models.................. 900 to 960 kg
    2.0 litre models.................. 960 to 990 kg

Cant be arsed to type in the saloons + estates e.t.c!

Interesting, all the hatches less than 1 tonne kerb weight according to Mr Haynes Manual then.

If you can remember back to some of the road test reports when the 16 valver came out there was one saying that the power to weight ratio was 155bhp per ton - early ones where 157BHP, I'm sure you can work the rest out. If I remember correctly they said it had more power to weight than a Porsche 944 (or was it a 924? It was one of the crappy ones anyway).

Besides, weight or more properly mass depends on how quickly you are going - infinite mass at the speed of light and all that

If you are really keen to find out, just drive it on to a weighbridge.
go on, don't be a wuss, just chmod 777 it
