right then all. Im after an unbiased opinion on the matter of whether chavs cally t will be quickier than my mates pulsar gti-r over a quater mile. Im sure your all aware of chavs spec so no need for me to harp on about that. The pulsar however is standard except a filter and cat-back system so should be putting out in the region of 230bhp give or take a bhp or 2. I have asked on the gtiroc forum and they all conceive that pulsar will be quickier as it stands now. He is however fitting a HKS EVC gen 5 Boost controller and hybrid front mount this week so with boost at around 1 bar, should be at the 290-300bhp mark.

Now given, in standard spec (the pulsar) im not sure which will be quickier, but when the pulsaris running near 300bhp, i think there is no contest!!

cheers for your opinions

That looks a LOT like my mates one (cant be many blue ones?) he was sold it as allegedly having all that stuff too, but when we took the engine apart it was standard except the head gasket!

If its the same car, i think he might want a word with whoever told you all that stuff in the first place lmao

Hitec gearbox,blitz suspension,remapped,1.1 bar boost,full repaint in europa blue,kahn alloys,samcos,exhaust,filter etc etc..Was a flying machine.bought the car for 7k and spent 7k ish on it.....sold it for a lot less:D

Matt - telling me to run 100bhp of nitrous... what the hell do you think I am in the process of doing? lmao

Philevo6 - Yes the Evo is in a class of it's own and anyone who thinks a Pulsar has the same handling is just plain wrong! When it comes to Jap 4x4 only the WRX comes close (and still not quite there!)

Well how come you couldnt manage to get it to handle as well as an early evo then?
Did you have the suspension set badly wrong or something?

Cause the ingredients sound like they were all there.

Pretty common though for people to buy all the right bits then fall foul on knowing how to set them up from what ive seen, so certainly not isolated to just you!

Thats just not true at all, pulsars are fantastic handling little cars, have you EVER actually driven one in anger?

I agree, but not as good as an evo...end of!! Look at totb3,4,5 handling course times, evo's dominated.

An early evo as chip says might be in the same league, but evo 5 onwards....errr no!!

My pulsar was set up by hitec chip, and if you look them up,i dont think they are mugs when it comes to pulsars.

Edit to add....owned for 3 years and YES...driven in anger!!

Phil, its only fair to compare them to the pre-evo4 before IMHO for several reasons:

thats what was out at the same time
they are more like for like in terms of not having AYC etc
they are more comparable in terms of secondhand cost

I think you should drive a pre-evo4 sometime, you might be surprised at how much different to the 6 they are!

TOTB has never been about standard cars TBH and pulsars have never been seriously represented there from what ive seen, so im not sure thats mega relevant.
But just for the record, GT Battle was won by an escort cosworth last year, beating the norris designs Evo, which is widely recognised as best in the country, so if people are influenced by these sort of competitions they should all be driving ford escorts ;)

FFS he even thinks they are comparable in cost? How is 7k comparable to 3k? Are you drinking that cider again Chip? lmao

While its true that you do see early evo's for 3K and really tidy late pulsars for 7K i dont see how thats relevant, they both are very much the in same ballpark, unlike an evo 8 or an escos etc

Look...the pulsar DOES handle superb.....no argument.....but i think you will be in the minority on any forum (except gti-r owners club:) ) if you think they are the same or can out handle an evo.

Very underated car tho,the pulsar.

People used to think mine was a 1.6 sunny with a bodykit!!lmao

0-60 in 5.5 ish and 150 mph.....thats some 1.6!!:D

I dont actually care what people on forums who havent driven them like Chav think, i prefer to go by my own firsthand experience

You are right they DO handle superbly, wether they feel slightly better or slightly worse to someone than an early evo doesnt change the fact they (unlike a calibra which was the point of my post in the first place) are in the same ballpark, they are both PROPER 4wd equipped cars with motorsport heritage behind their suspension setups.

Chip I am judging my opinions on the following facts:

1. Nobody except you has ever put the Pulsar into the same league as an Evo or Scooby. This includes the dozens of people I have known with Jap cars, people in the tuning industry, magazine reviews etc...

2. From being a passenger in Kev's pulsar, it felt very grippy and stable in the bends... but not as sure footed as MY Calibra 4x4. Having said that... I bet standard vs standard the Pulsar would be better... BUT this thread is about comparing my car to Kev's. So IMHO as they stand mine handles better.

Both myself and Kev are half-decent drivers, but not professionals by any stretch of imagination.

Oh and this thread is on barryboys now!

It all depends on how much cash you got to throw at it,driving skill, and how big your balls are,in terms of handling.:D

As far as speed goes.....

An evo could beat a cossie,a csl m3 could beat an evo,a atom could beat the csl....then a modded cossie would whup the lot!!

Depends how deep your pockets are.

Sorry to go off topic but was reading about the handling everyoene is slagging off on the calibra? Are the calibras different or identical to cavalier turbos (suspension/length etc) cos i would say my cavalier turbo is the best handling car iv had yet!??

let it in one ear and out the other  people are always slating cally handling, mines lowered and on 17`s.
handles tons better than what my GTE 16v, or mk3 SRI ever did, even out handles my hubbys champion turbo on roundabouts :D
