Engine Build/ Fitting Stage 3 Pics (Not For 56k)

    Carrying on from...
Engine build stage 2 (56k erm no)

We started early on this one as we had lots to do.
First we needed to get the car up in the air and get anything off or disconneted to drop the engine out.
Now, because of my smooth, recently painted engine bay I didnt wanna pull the engine through the top (the proper, man way) how we normal would do it ,so had to drop it from the bottom. Which is rubbish and was hardly worth the hassle in the end.
This meant removing the tie bars, normally they're a c**t to get off.....
Luckily, today they came straight off with little force!

Then, with the engine all ready to come out... it started to piss down!
So I went to go and get lunch... Got back and the engine's out on the floor....!

Whilst Dan (Astra Dan), Dave (whitevan) and myself got the engine ready to come out the legend that is jamie_f finished building the engine ready to fit.
Painted cam pulleys and cams on:

With the engine all built,it was just a case of getting the gearbox and bits on...
With the box off we found I had a pot type flywheel... on an early engine...
But that will get changed if I can find someone that can lighten and balance my spare flat type flywheel.

While this was going on I cleaned up my engine bay after the enormous oil leak I had on the way to Billing Got it all nice and cleaned and waxed and touched up where my alternator gave way and ground into the inner wing!

Got the engine back in and bolted up... This is where my camera gave up on life...
So more pics when Dave sends them over.
Engine's ready for plumbing in and finished tomorrow as weather was worsening and people had to get home for dinner and such.
So more pics in an hour or so.
Now as some of you know I had an overfuelling and smoking problem. We found out why it was smoking. Bore glaze and all of the pistons move. No 1 you could see down the side of the piston and see the ring! It moved a good 1.5mm side to side!

But now its all sorted all I need to do is start running her in...

    Then carb her right up!
more pics a few replys down,
    Thanks for reading...

    thanks dude,
    and theres no advantage,
its sh*t!!!! dont even try it,other reason to do it is if you cant get an engine hoist, and even then...dont,

thought the top everytime, the only way to do it!!!!

al:ault is getting chromed along with a huge bag of other stuff,

Because they dont know how to to take it out the top the easy way, its not to bad on a nova/mk2 astra as you dont have a subframe, but even still its still a mare, Benns kept catching on the steering rack and and the tie rod mounts, to do it on a mk3 astra/cav means pissing about with the subframe and suspension, far to much hasstle.
