    For my 21st Birthday I got…

A ‘Drivers Choice Plus’ day, back in August 2004, decided on going for the Rally drive, instead of skin pad, military, off road, and racing.

Only just got around to booking, want peeps advice – has anyone ever been on one of these?

The two most local places to go are:

Northampton, where I’d be driving a Peugeot 206 GTI Rally Spec car, mostly on gravel which is FWD

    Or

Loughborough, where I’d be driving an Mitsubishi Evo 5 on the Tarmac track, a Group N VW Polo Rally Spec on the gravel track, and either a Peugeot 205, Dihatsu Rally or a Totoya Levin also on the gravel/ tarmac course.

Obviously my I want to go on the Loughorough one with 3 different courses, and 3 different cars – but has anyone ever been on one? Is there a reason that Northampton only offers 1 car, better experience?

    some more gen:

Rally Driving Silver Experience (Half Day)
Welcome, introduction & briefing on rally driving techniques
Loose gravel stage in a group N rally car
Mitsubishi Evolution V on tarmac stage
Driving a VW Polo group N rally car on tarmac/loose gravel stage
    Tarmac Karting
    Individual driving assessment and certificate

    Additional Details
Rally Driving Silver courses start at 9.00am or 1.00pm, last 3-4 hours amd take place on selected days during the year at Prestwold Hall Racing Circuit (Leicestershire). Spectators welcome.

Rally driving is probably the most on-the-edge driving experience there is. Be it on tarmac, mud or gravel, rarely is the car ever pointing in a straight line. The Rally Driving Experience from Everyman Motor Racing Activities is a fantastic opportunity to master this most demanding of motor sports. Only this time, Colin McRae and Richard Burns aren't bearing down.
Rally driving requires a unique set of driving skills. Not only are there different surfaces to master - tarmac and gravel. But also different styles of power delivery. Rear wheel drive. Front wheel drive. And the ultimate in grip, four wheel drive. Under the guidance of an experienced instructor, drivers learn power slides, skid control, brake and gear controls plus under and oversteer techniques. On both a high-speed, high-grip tarmac circuit and a purpose built rally gravel stage. New for this year are works race-tuned VW Rally Polos. We also have a selection of other rally cars including the ultimate rally car, the Mitsubishi Evo 'V's.
There really is no greater test of a driver's skills, or for that matter, their nerve.

    Like its stolen
Ive been on a few similar days, and know a couple of people who teach on them (although not at those places)

Daft as it sounds i would possibly go for the 206 only day, as if you are in the same car for a lot longer then you will get to push it that bit harder.

I've been on a few similar days too. A close friend of mine used to be an instructor at Brands and I went out many a time in the RWD Escort Cosworths they had there. Loads of fun and always left wanting more and more time on the track .

    Well, what a day

Thoroughly enjoyed myself today - thanks to Michelle for buying me it! x

Here are some pics of today... in order of what I drove:

    Me in the ready

Pug 205 1.6 GTi Grp N Spec > Loose Gravel Track, Slallom, Learning to slide:

    Me giving it some:

Next up, VW Polo 1.6 16v, Rally prepped again, same track, loose gravel slallom... altho left hand drive so first ever time in one

Ohhh the smoke! (note the cone in the air lmao)

Next up - Scooby... Tarmac track

Then this 315bhp Evo V, on the tarmac track (altho this is a left hooker - I drove the right hand drive one)

    Through a chicane

Finally I ended up in some pretty nippy karts

Amazing day - all thanks to Michelle... recommended to anyone!
