I need to get a set to slap on my cav turbo alloys for a spare set and don't wanan pay the earth for the likes of good year F1's etc maybe even Toyo T1's aswell.
Adam- the Kuhmo ecsta's (712) are a very good tyre- If you cross reference the tread wear, heat and grip numbers against some more of the 'better' brands you'll be very suprised.
I'll give you a hint- Yoko A539's and Bridgestone Potenza's were the only 2 brands i could find that had better treadwear, grip and heat ratings.
I have put them on RDS' Calibra, Haywards Gsi (now mine) My Gte, My brother's Mk 3 golf Gti, and a mates Mi16 205. No one has complained about them at all.
Wouldn't touch those if you paid me- overrated German shi te. And don't bother with "well if BMW/Mercedes etc fit them they must be good" coz it's all politics mate.
sorry but with a name like kumho i would not stick them on anything that is faster than a reliant robin.now that i have had yoko avs sports i would not buy anything else

So you've not actually tried them?? They're actually a very good tyre. Equal to a lot of the 'branded' tyres- better than the GS2 Eagle F1's, Mich Poilot Premacy, Toyo Proxe's to name a few

Hmm, seeing how F1s were rated no2 in the annual top tyre test by Auto Express last year, I doubt that they're "better". Might be very good for the money.

My opinion on tyres is just to judge for yourself. Everyone's experience is different with tyres. They also change from bald tyres to brand new of a different manufacturer, and because of the sudden drastic change in performance usually think that the new tyre is much better than the old. However, it's normally just the case that the old tyres were bald and past their best.
The trouble with F1s and Toyos is that they have deep treads, and thus the tyres tend to overheat on dry days.
The best tyres I've ever had have been Kumho's, their V70A tarmac rally tyres, but they are the best for specific reasons for the MR2, i.e. they have an immensly strong sidewall, which the MR2 needs with such a huge weight over the rear end. They turned the car from being soggy at the back to being sharp... ...and I still have to get my rear Leda's sorted out.
Kumho make some of the cheapest nastiest tyres around, and they also make some great competition rubber.
Try them and see what you think. I'll be getting some Toyo R888's for the front of my MR2 as the front of the MR2 is quite a bit lighter than the rear.
When i bought my 19's for the vectra they came with those Khumo Ecsta 712 tyres and i thought they were pretty good. Like was said above they were a tad slippy in the wet but were great in the dry.
I have had Kumho 712's on the cav and they were good in wet, not as good as Falkens which is my preference.
Ran Toyo's last summer but they weren't spectacular imho (especially for the extra 30 bucks each) and they wore out on the front in 3 months. Falken has come along way, they wear well; good in wet and dry; pish in snow lmao and they are cheap.
