Who are the best insurers for this? I've been told its possible to get a policy to drive any other car third party with the owners permission. Is it pricy? what are the conditions?

barclay's car insurance gives you it if you are under 25

not sure about moded cars ?
Check the small print on that one. So many exclusions and restrictions nowadays. Like, you can only drive cars with a lower ins. group than yours, upto certain groups, engine sizes, values etc etc.

Also the major one, it HAS to be insured by someone else. Well, its ok to drive it if it isn't insured elsewhere, but if for example you leave the car on the road (say to go into a shop or break down and leave it etc), then the car is then illegal as its uninsured.

Some companies do it as standard, ring a broker up and when they give you a quote for your car ask them to look down the list of insurers and see who offers the "drive other cars" jobbie. You can get them on a TPFT policy, I have in the past.

Make sure the car you borrow (with permission) is insured with someone else though, if the car has NO insurance cover on it then you driving it will be illegal
