it general what i did was not a good idea...

It seemed like a good idea at the time...but clearly it wasn't!

Tonight i was a little bored and went a drive, was a calm night, roads were dry, roy bacers out in force. It was at about 12:00 midnight (not long before i start writing this)
Anyways out driving around and what do i see but 2 saxo's and a civic driving a bit faster than they should have been.
Decided to follow them and see what was happening, i just sort of keep my distance so as not to provoke these people in to driving faster, as per my usual observe the boy racers in their natural environment technique.

Anyways it isn't long before i suss whats happening the 2 saxo's are VTS's and the civic (old shape) is a 1.6 16V i know because i've actually spoke to this guy before, seems decent. So i'm guessing there is some sort of king of the 1600's going on here and i just keep back.

Following them out of the town they are heading for the motorway, interesting i thought as saxo's are more impressive around the town, so i pulled up behind the last car, Saxo just to say "i wanna watch this".
I sit and just generally want to see how they move on the motorway, so i sit there and they come out of a round about onto the motorway, the poor civic had lost already! 2 saxo's ripped past him accelerating really quick, i drop to 2nd and see if i can reel them in, really kicked the crap outta my engine but reeled in the first saxo when i looked down i was doing 95, holy crap!! They did get a head start but i thought i would have caught him before 95!
The guy was still acclerating and him, with me pushing him down the road caught the lead saxo, at this point all 3 of us are doing an indicated 130mph! i think the saxo's had no more power left but the GSi wasn't exactly on holiday either, i could have pulled past them both i recon but the blood went back to my brain and i hammered on the brakes and took her back down to 80mph, the saxo's kept going, and if i knew it was safe to do so i.e. on a track i would have stayed in the game, but i was SO p**sed off at myself for even getting drawn into it, i came home, parked the car, and looked at it in a totally different light tonight!

I'm strongly considering selling the GSi, its a great car, i love it to bits, it takes a lot of car to beat my GSi for all that it is, but i think i'm still too young and dumb to be able to keep the GSi and my licence!

P.S This all took place in a dream/track/other country/totally fictional!
- I don't even have a GSi and saxo's can't do 130mph, and i also live in a small island with no roads only dirt tracks...i call it scotland

There was nothing stupid about what you did mate, you had a bit of fun "racing" your car against 2 other quick cars on a deserted motorway at midnight, thats what you've got the GSI for. If you were doing this around town then you need castrated but it was all done safely

I dont know where you guys live but only a few miles away from where i live is literally hundreds of miles of country lanes,at night when its dark and you can see other cars lights coming the other way is the time and place i use the cars power, brakes and handling,i regulaly go out in the dark on my own for a fast drive, then when you get back to residential areas i stick to the limit.
Surely most people have country lanes not too far away?
Dave
Definitely agree with use of back roads, as they don't just test straightline speed.

When I was Kenny's age ( 24 years ago :( ) I was fortunate to be living in Hedge End near Southampton while I was at college, and there were some excellent back roads between there and Winchester - gave my 1.6 Celica some stick :D

Dont go kicking yourself for it, hell ive done 130mph too many times in the past and im sure ill do it again in the future, dont take much to get there with a C20LEt either.

As long as its 'relatively' safe i cant see the prob (said in another thread recently ive got little respect for non residential speed limits). And by relatively i mean on a fairl empty motorway as opposed to busy one, and carriageways with no hidden entry exit roads or side roads etc...

Dude, ***king lighten up man. dont wanna drive fast dont buy a fast car. As a passenger in a board members cav turbo today we raced an escort cossie round a national speed limit road up to 125mph indicated, and then shortly after did a 160mph indicated top speed run down the M62 - midafternoon.

myself and ajbek are surrounded by them too, hence its the place you will find allan testing new mods to his engine there, and me generally just enjoying them!

And someone requested pics of the car, i've shoved a cut down version of kennysbox on brave net so for pics go here...

nice looking gsi that.

can i ask why do you have 2 cars? also at 20/what do you do to be able to afford that? Both are smart cars...I think if you sold the gsi you'd always be wanting something faster that the 1.6 astra just can't give you...but then again if you keep the gsi you might lose something else. who knows mate, your decision to make.

f it kenny, i doubt there are many users on any car enthusiasts site who can say they havent been drawn into a wee race here or there. i know i have, on more then a few occasions. by the time that LET nova went off the road its reputation preceeded it about here and i was gettin cossies etc from local areas trying it on with me.

the thing is with a decently quick car, you know its quick and dont have to prove it all the time so you find yourself driving sensibly more in a quicker car than in a smaller slower car hence the 1ltr crew ragging it about everywhere they go.

As far as I see it, I pay a small fortune for the priviledge of driving on uk roads.

I'm also improving its performance week by week, I simply see other fast car's as competitors, I do not try to race very young lads in fast cars as it WILL end in tears for them as they plough into a hedge. I aim for the hopefully more experienced driver :)

I raced an R32, 3 weeks ago and kept up with it, had a good chat on with the driver at a petrol garage afterwards, I'm not out to cause pain death and suffering generally on the road.

I just like to see that the pain, sweat, tears and thinking of the car until I fall asleep and how I can improve it have all been worth it.

my £1's worth :D

i raced a saxo yesterday too lol

vtr with lexus lights - shock

he wanted to race and tailgated me while i was driving steady. so i cut in to let him past......

then i went back out in outside lane in 3rd gear and left him for dead - made me giggle i waited up for him too after a while but he didnt wanna play no more :(

to have 2 cars i work my a*s off thats off thats about the size of it, all my money goes on the cars, and when the oppertinity to get the GSi came up i sold my bike to get it. Thanks for the comments on the cars - they are currently where most of my money goes lol, the 1.6 MK4 isn't fast at all...well actually thats not true its got a very decent top end, and it keeps with any silly boy racers but its just a lot of effort to make it accelerate but it is lovely to drive, the GSi is just much lighter with a big engine and its fun for that reason lmao

I think rog is right, i do actually rarely give the GSi stick it just keeps with traffic so easy and an briskly accelerate quite well in most gears :)

astramojo - sounds like you got a lot of passion for your car, thats always good!

Same story hear, I am at uni and work about 30 motorway miles away, if I lost my licence i could continue with uni for about a month before being broke, as I get a bus would mean I couldn't get to work in time to do enough hours when fitting work around uni.

nearly every sunday on the way back to uni I will be touching 130 or more cos I dont like loosing. classic was a race with a bmw 330ci, i normally slow down where ever police normally hide but all that went out the window along with fuel ecomony.

BUT
buy a quick car cos you want to park it in tesco's car park at midnight standing around looking at it does not appeal to me.
accelerator is there to put your foot on, rev limiter is there to be touched, fuel is there to be burnt, tarmac is replaced, and I pay for every penny of it - why not use it to the max, if you get caught you are using a public service you pay for - the police

Too true about money!

I'm feeling a bit better about the whole thing, i guess what got me the more was that i was stupid enough to get roped and going that fast would have cost me my education!

However today i was feeling a little frisky and i've always wanted to know (i asked months ago) whats quicker, a GSi or a focus ST170...well lads i put that one to rest!

Seen a focus blatting around the town and just followed him a little out of the town, as the road speed changed he booted it and i got on the power at the *exact* same second and he couldn't pull an inch, i actually had to back off to aviod hitting him, i never let the speeds get stupid, he backed off and so did i then he horsed it again and gained a little then i reeled the guy back in...a bit easier than i thought i would have!

It came together so well the GSi was on top form tonight, and i'm glad because i never once let the speeds get silly! i.e. i think i didn't go above 90 maybe less, The focus really didn't have enough to pull an inch and the GSi felt faster than usual when i planted it in 2nd gear when he put the foot down it was great felt like i have 30more hp than normal! 2nd gear and 3rd gear came and went so quick to speedo just looked like it was racking up so much quicker and the focus was holding me back :D

yea right crissy, the only reason i'm thinking of selling it is i can't really afford to lose my license at this point!

as for the saxo's yea perhaps i lost to them in terms of who was gonna die first but they were the ones that were tapped out at 130 with my GSi sitting up their a*s ;)
but like i said beating a saxo isn't exactly a note worthy win anyways...waste of bloody petrol for a redtop!

Hey who cares lol, thats why you buy a quick car... to have fun :)

I work in insurance, nobody knows better than me what can happen to you by.. um.. having fun in your car hehe, but that doesn't stop me :) (not that i speed of course)

Cars are meant to be driven, they have performance .. for a reason :)

I was in a simlilar situation on saturday afternoon. Basically, we had be at my girlfriends cousins wedding for 12:30. Filled up the car about 11:50, thinking a nice, average uneventful trip down, job's a goodun. But no.
Left petrol station 2 mins later someone flashed me, i'd got a flat tyre. arse. back to station. tried using the auto-inflator with no luck. got my compressor out to start it off and after 10 mins got the tyre up. its now 12:15 i've got 15 mins to do 42miles
By the time i was leaving the slip road i'd undertook 2 lorries and 3 cars, and headed down the road at 125+
We got there 15mins late, just in time the 'i do's'.
Felt such a di*k afterwards, as i could have lost my licence.
Sorry for the thread hi-jack.

Disclamer : All the above is a lie

hehe, at least i'm not the only one that stops afterwards and ponders for a sec and thinks *TVVAT*

Still you can justify a 20XE for normal use because it can deliver decent fuel economy but a V6 .... now they stink at fuel economy you should really drive them fast because lets face it your fuel economy's gonna suck anyway!

how fast was that?, can't really see

At 130 the VTSs were tapped out the GSi's book figure is 137, reports from last owner is that car can go off the clock (140mph clocks) anything over 100 is fast...a mate of mine is a traffic cop and he hates speeding...not other people speeding but him having to give it the blues N twos, but then again after the things he's seen  no wonder!

I don't think i'd enjoy 135-155mph in motorway traffic with or without big blue lights!
