As you can see, holes where there shouldnt be and the water ways are too small.

As you can clearly see they just dont match up without "modding" it.

yes i know that - myself and rob looked at these around 18 months ago. The hole "differences" dont actually matter. A c20let gasket on a Z20LET WOULD be a problem. I doubt it was that which caused the overheating

SBD do the Cometic items, come in 1.1, 1.3 and 1.9mm sizes. Not cheap at just over the £100 mark but very good peices of kit.

Its the physical size of the water ways that are the problem, they are a fraction of the size on the standard gasket and any "proper" LET gaskets.
It was deffo. this that caused the over heating and that was with a cooler running stat.
If the waterways can be opened out without damaging the gasket then I imagine it would be ok.

If you read the forced induction tuning manual reducing hole size is important when you up the boost on head gaskets. It actually increases water speed and reduces pump cavitation. I have had no overheating problems since ive had my new manifold and turbo, with the old setup it overheated very quickly in traffic. Alot of the heat under load on modded LETS is the huge backpressure the engine is under from the small exhaust manifold.
The Z20 Gasket works well, Arno at EDS uses it on car (25k plus) running almost 2bar of boost, if its gonna fail it will fail at those types of boost pressures.
As Dave has pointed out if you want a steel gasket that matchs the original then get a Cometic steel gasket but you are paying over the odds for sommit you don't really need. You also need to remove 3 rivets from the Z20 Gasket (easy with a good HSS drill bit) leaving the rivet thats by cylinder 4 (inlet manifold side) as well.
Sir, please step away from the car

The gasket held together by 4 rivets (one each corner) 3 need to be carefully drilled out otherwise they foul the head and block. Once the gasket is put onto the block the locating lugs hold it in place.
If your not sure get a normal LET gasket from Vaux
