    Write them a letter!

Heres a basic layout for you - might need a bit of fettling!

    Dear Mr *****,

RE : Sale of Goods Act 1979 (as amended) – Vauxhall Zafira Reg no ****

I refer to the above vehicle, which I purchased from your garage on ??th ??????? 200? at the cost of ?????.00

When I used the car on [insert date]I discovered it was faulty, I immediately contacted yourselves about the fault, and was told by your staff that this was not a fault and that it was indeed normal. I find this to be unacceptable and am hesitant to even use the vehicle for fear of any other 'normal faults' occuring.

Since the time of purpose the car has travelled less than ???miles in total.
I telephoned your garage on [insert date]to report the fault, when I spoke to your salesman, [name]. I told him that I was not happy that a fault had developed in this short timescale and mileage. He told me that this was of no concern to myself and it was normal.

I have taken further advice on this matter and have been told that I have Statutory Rights under the Sale of Goods Act 1979 (as amended)

Under the Sale of Goods Act 1979 as amended by the Sale and Supply of Goods Act 1994 and the Sale and Supply of Goods to Consumers Regulations 2002, “the goods must be fit for their purpose” and “of satisfactory quality”

As this fault developed within such a short space of time and mileage after purchase, its seems that the vehicle does not satisfy these conditions
I would therefore like you to arrange for the car to be repaired free of charge to me, within the next two weeks.

If this is not possible then I request a full refund of the purchase price and for you to arrange collection, at no charge to me, of the car from its current location.

I look forward to hearing from you within the next 14 days.

I will contact [your county]County Council Trading Standards Department about this matter and for further advice on Monday 8th March.
They will also receive a copy of this letter.

The back doors have two windows. The main window and the little quarter window. When i was washing the car when i rubbed the sponge over the quarter window it moved!, Both sides move with the palm of your hand!!. Charvills of stortford is the dealer and they reckon its perfectly normal!!! Erm............... no!

    Drizz,

I have had a lot of dealings with Vauxhall HQ in recent times. Don't even try the sale of goods act, it will just put up there defences and not want to be very helpfull, it is just an arrogant way to do it.

Ring Vauxhall and ask to speak to customer services. Explain the fault and that the dealer is unable to offer a solution. Then ask for a case number and the Vauxhall engineer will visit your dealer to look at the car.

Take the nicey nicey approach and be as polite as possible.

I took this method withmy first GSi Zafira and Vauxhall swapped it for a new car after 12 months use, and the cost tome.....Nothing, I simply drove mine into my dealer, signed a bit of paper gave them the keys and drove off in my new one.

And they paid for the 3000 of options as a good will gesture for the delay in getting my new one.

So if you play ball with them, they will play ball with you. No disrespect to anyone herebut many people think that by ranting and raving gets results. It does'nt.

Tis what I do at work, if someone comes on the phone with an attitude then I won't be as helpful.

It pays to be polite (although their are limits!)

As Matt has said take th enicely nicely approach.

I checked a couple of our Zafiras, if you put pressure on them they do move slightly on the rear edge which has the biggish rubber strip down it, however it took a bit of pressure and inly moved a milimeter or so.
Couldn't think of anything good to put in here.

Thanks guys. U got the number Matt? Mine moves a good 10mm on both sides. Where do i stand with regards to my dump valve? Is it worth buying a replacement pipe and getting rid of it when it gets inspected?

Drizz, you would be best to put the original back. But in theory it should not make any difference, as you not complaining about the engine. Obviously the dump valve has nothing to do with your windows moving.

I'd be very suprised if they even open the bonnet, let alone drive it.
