    Bringing up very faded paint?

Hi, my Nova has been off the road for about a year now and not been cleaned once in the time I or the last owner had it.

Whats the best way to bring the paint back to life for a novice to car cleaning/detailing?

Was thinking about the meguiars 3 stage kit, that any good?

well for a start, even the most beasic car polishes will bring out the shine, you got to ask is it worth spending £30- 40 quid on the expensive stuff when a cheaper stuff would be just nearly as good. Tripplewax by CarPlan springs to my mind. Costs around a fiver. And gives out very reasonable results.

Most important thing to do is to wash the car thoroughly first, remove any stubborn stains etc first.

    allow it to dry properly

tHEN APPLY a thin coat evenly and allow it to dry completely on manageable size areas, don't wax the whole car at once

Then polish off using micro fibre cloth available from halfords.

If you polish when some parts of the car body may be stilol wet, the wax dries very hard and won't come off easily without rubbing it harder.

Only need to use T cut or similar paint restoring substances if the paint work is exceptionally faded out, yours seems fine and will come out shiney just by using a normal cheaper polish.
Our future lies in the past, we can learn from the past to forcast our future,

I'd be tempted to use something like AutoGlym paint renovator to remove the worst of the oxidation if doing it by hand (slightly less agressive than T-cut and doesn't smell like week old piss), then use a reasonable finishing polish/wax combo like Autoglym Super Resin Polish.

Just a wax on it's own will bring the shine back but my (painful arm hurting polishing) experience with Vauxhall flame red tells me you'll want a paint restorer product, but try a basic polish first as MSG suggests - you might be surprised with the results. You can always buy more products to compliment what you get to start with if you need to.

I had (and still have) the same problem but not quite as faded as that, I used Autoglym paint renovator and super resin polish and the panel that I did came up a treat!

A while back Practical Classics did a test on refinishing renovators anf the one that came out best was the Turtle Wax Colour Restorer. Can be hard to find (Halfords don't stock it). It does work on Flame Pink!

    Ah, good old flame pink!

Very little will make it red and keep it red, short of a can of paint IME. I'd love to know if this wasn't the case but anything I used to try would work for about a week.

You dont need to sand it, flatting factory paint its best.
I'm louder than gods own revolver and twice as shiney.

Re: Bringing up very faded paint?

I would get the Tee-cut out to bring the paint back, Then give it another going over with Autoglym Super Resin Polish to give it a very nice shine.
