    Which wheel cleaner?

I've always used AutoGlym squirty liquid stuff but some one said that its quite acidic. I'm looking at having my wheels refurbed very soon and as such want a cleaning fluid that isn't going to shorten the life span of the finish.

    What do you recommend?

I dunno ... not into detaling , it goes on as a mist and you wipe it and it helps next time you wash the wheels .

If you don't wash your car a lot the brake dust comes off easier .

Sounds like your talking about the megs quick wheel detailer buddy, totaly different stuff if so!.. megs alloy detailer is really a quick last min wipe when attending shows ect or for a quick detail if you cnt be bothered, exact same method as the ultimate quick detailer for the car. Offers no protection at all so would have to seal the wheels after use.

    Re: Which wheel cleaner?

whats everyones cleaning method of wheels? do you spray the alloys with cleaner before washing the car then wash off when washing the car/pressure washing the car down or concentrate on the wheels after youve washed the car, imo, this would offer you a different idea in which product to use?!

if you use your brakes once a week yes.

For hardcore brake users who wash cars once a month a wheel acid is needed.

Mark, There is a Autosmart place in Hedge End that will sort you out. will tell you about it when we catch up next.

    Re: Which wheel cleaner?

brake dust still inbeds itself, and not all highly diluted (which most are) shampoos will remove it, to add, some, like me, may be getting a small leakage of cv grease out of the joint, which we all know is quite messy, but cant be bothered to sort it out! :/

    Re: Which wheel cleaner?

I've never had a prob, wax your wheel and nothing sticks.

I wouldn't use anything with acid in, as that eats at the surface and gives some where for the brake dust to stick too.

Bilberry wheel clearer iirc is none acid based so is the best one to use.

    Re: Which wheel cleaner?

although high in alkali, not sure yet what difference that makes, im still looking into wheel cleaners at the moment

but something thats crossed my mind, is that for harsher brakers, surely the brake dust is going to be of a temperature, and therefore 'burning' itself into the wax/protection??

    Re: Which wheel cleaner?

I bought some wonder wheels last week to try to clean up a set of Omega elite alloys. They have a lot of brake dust etc stuck to them, so I was hoping it would be strong stuff/acidic. I was disappointed with the results, but for wheels which arent in such a bad state (and something quite mild is required) it may be worth a try.
