    Basic flame Pink renovation questions/clarifications

    OK folks,

Cleaning and detailing is a forum I thought I'd never post in as the most I'm really intereted in is washing my car and giving it a quick poish.

Up until now I've only ever had dark blue cars which were a piece of wee wee to clean up but as you will see I have a flame pink corsa.

More up to date pics in my build thread. The pic above is over a year old and it hasn't been polished since then either lmao

Now, I'm not prepared to go buying £100 bottles of polish / wax and microfibre / lambswool / sealskin / gorilla pube polishing cloths. All I need is a cheap and cheerful way to drive a red car again.

I've been reading through threads like this one and I think that all I'm going to need to do, so that I can bring the paint back to life is wash, G3, polish then wax.

I was intending giving the car a going over with G3, 2 coats of polish max then maybe 2 coats/layers/whatever of wax.

    My questions

    1) I have a cheapish machine polisher that plugs into the mains so I'm thinking that is going to be earier for applying the G3. Correct?

    2) Polish will be Auto Glym stuff. The one with the red square on the bottle. That will be OK I assume?

    3) Wax will be this stuff as it's in the garage. Will 1 coat be OK or should I go beserk and give it more?

    4) Am I right in thinking that going forward all I will need to do is wash, polish and wax again? None of this G3 malarky?

    5) How big a bottle of G3 will I need for a Corsa?

    Thanks in advance,
    Melv

a machine polisher does indeed make applying g3 a hell of alot easier and you'll only need a small amount of it to do full car, iirc can get bottles of it the same size as an aerosol can, that will be fine for a full car

    1) I have a cheapish machine polisher that plugs into the mains so I'm thinking that is going to be earier for applying the G3. Correct? Yes, will make it much easier.

    2) Polish will be Auto Glym stuff. The one with the red square on the bottle. That will be OK I assume? It's not bad, but there are much better ones, But if your G3/6ing it then you wont need to polish after it as the G will do that, well for a while away.

    3) Wax will be this stuff as it's in the garage. Will 1 coat be OK or should I go beserk and give it more? If your gonna be using that i'd put a few coats on dude, its a bit low in the wax content.

    4) Am I right in thinking that going forward all I will need to do is wash, polish and wax again? None of this G3 malarky? Yes, once you'd G'ed it back to like, keeping up a regular polishing and waxing will keep the colour looking good.

    5) How big a bottle of G3 will I need for a Corsa? 250ml iirc will do it, but might be worth getting 500ml so you have plenty.

    Cheers gents.

Benn, big hugs and maybe some Vimto coming your way at Billing!

*edit - Is there anything else that's reasonably priced in the way of wax with a decent wax content?

Simple and easy kit. Very good wax. (we get discount on there too)

    - Collinite #476s Paste Wax Detailing Kit Elite Car Care

I use this, find is fantastic. Lasts ages and well gives a great finish.

    - Meguiars Professional Paste Wax #16 - 312g Elite Car Care

Yes you dont want to be polishing by hand as you will be there for days. You shouldn't need to polish the car again unless the paint oxidises or you swirl it by general washing. Collinite wax is the shizz though.

Keep us updated Melv, i'd love to see the results. I had a bash on a few panels on mine with Autoglym super resin polish and with some more effort im sure it'd come up spanking.

Yes much better for sorting the paint / polishing made simple. You wont get as good of finish as a better polisher but you get what you pay for.

    2) Polish will be Auto Glym stuff. The one with the red square on the bottle. That will be OK I assume?
Yes but id start with G3 if possible then go to SRP if i was you.

    3) Wax will be this stuff as it's in the garage. Will 1 coat be OK or should I go beserk and give it more?
Lots of layers but as Ben said id use this - - Meguiars Professional Paste Wax #16 - 312g Elite Car Care i use it (granted i got mine for free ) and its so easy to use its unreal mate. I put 3 coats on the gsi before i went to europe car was minging and on the drive to Germany in the rain it cleaned its self lmao

    4) Am I right in thinking that going forward all I will need to do is wash, polish and wax again? None of this G3 malarky? Correct.

    5) How big a bottle of G3 will I need for a Corsa? as Ben said

    Thanks in advance,

    Before

After one going over with G3 and my polisher.

It's going to need another going over with G3 then it's polish and wax time. Joy!

Just wish it didn't take so bloody long. What a faffing about to get it back to red again.

As your G3ing i'd just wax straight after. As the G3 is like a polish. Get a few good coats of wax on it tho.

Re: Basic flame Pink renovation questions/clarifications

i havnt read all the thread but have seen the pictures, ive just done one of these flame pink cars, trust me your NEVER get it too the original colour with pastes alone. i have boxes of G3 stuff and polishing wheels ect. take of a wing mirror or something and compare the colour under neath, you car is still pink!
what you need to do is flat and polish it, i use 1200 grit with LOTS of water, you can use 1500 if you like, take your time and go over the whole car.then G3 compound it, then use a top quality polish like AUTO glym super resin. it will come up blnding RED!! not pink

Flat and polishing wont help. And is isn't best to do it on old factory paint.

Re: Basic flame Pink renovation questions/clarifications

That's looking fantastic, one thing I learnt (the hard way) on flame red is that you shouldn't regularly polish it - just use a sealant/wax and polish when you need to. Some of these have unbelievably thin paint on them!
