Mirror polished engine parts starting to tarnish help

Hi all can anyone help I've got mirror polished parts all over my engine and over the winter where it hasn't been driven the polished parts have tarnished and no matter how much I clean it with metal polish it won't go back to how it was. Can anyone reccomend any product that might remove it and has anyone managed to solve this without getting the parts re-done. Thanks

I've tried the autosol approach which brings it up nice on the parts which are still looking polished but the corroded parts still look dull I was hoping there might be somthing that might eat through that layer.

If they have started to bad corrode then re polishing is the only way to bring back up. You could try some 1000 wet and dry then auto solve. Auto glym and Megiars both do good metal polish too. They had added wax in too to help repel water.

Then get a good thick coat of wax over everything.

Autosol and fine wire wool works a treat on chrome exhaust trims so you could give that a try

If your willing to give it a try there's a company called chemetall and they manufacture cleaning chemicals that strip lead based paint off steel down to bare metal! They produce a spray called s71-a and that will probably be the only chemical that might dissolve the layer of scale.

It's just a suggestion and I'm not going to be held responsible for any damages caused by the stuff cos it's lethal!
I uses it tonight to remove 15 years worth of grimey oil off an engine block then jetwashed it off and it's done a good job.
