sponges trap dirt and can mark your car increasing swirls.
I've fixed this for you. Benn

How long do the wool things last??
Ive always used a sponge and to be honest had no problems lol
wool one will last a long time if washed out right and left to air dry etc,i have had mine a year and a half and is still good.

lambswool mitt, 2 bucket method with grit guards in the buckets is you best bet![]()

i didn't like the lambs wool mitt. i had a special sponge that didn't hold grit/dirt ect. cost me about £6. was good tho.. normal sponges usually leave swirl marks on paint works as they hold tiny bits of sh!t in them. 2 bucket method is essential tho.
a decent shampoo wouldnt go a miss as well.

i think if you jet wash it and then hand clean it, the car comes up nice and dry it nice a quick and then some good polish or wax
never put a jet wash brush near your car, worst thing every for being full of stones.

I love my sponge more than my paintwork. Tried a wooly mitt thing and couldn't get on with it at all![]()

I refuse to follow the rage. I use one bucket, one six year old sponge and a leather that looks as though it crawled out of the prehistoric age. In fact it smells like that also, lol

i have 4 buckets as im too lazy to keep changing the rinse bucket,i don`t trust even grit guards.

Hi mate,
The whole idea to wash a car thoroughly and correctly is basically to clean as much of the dirt off the vehicle before you even lay your hands on it, the less contact the better.
So a really good hose down, (or ideally a jet wash) is needed to remove as much as possible, the two bucket method (2BM) basically is just 2 buckets, one filled with fresh clean water, and the other with your shampoo of choice.
Using a lambswool wash mitt, not a sponge, gather up the suds and clean one panel of the vehicle, say half the roof, then place the mitt in the 'rinse' bucket, and rinse out, then place your now clean mitt back into the suds, and onto another panel, repeating this process.
The whole point of this is, to remove the remaining dirt on the vehicle as safely as possible, reducing the chance of inflicting light scratches and swirl marks, which are more noticable on darker colours.

Signature not as cool as Paul's
My dear mother (bless her) had a few tar spots on the bonnet and front wings off her 2 year old Vectra so instead of using the large collection of AG cleaning products I have in her garage she went at it with the above, its now star silver with a few matt patches lmao
Jack said,
Surely you are only pulling it one way though? ie. you are pulling it along its length.
lmao sounds likw something my mother would do!
I went to our local shop, where the owner had a mint mk4 astra van, only to find her cleaning it with a scotch pad with cif cream on it
She had been told by a customer that it would take the paint up shiney again!!
I had it for a full day after that with the buff and rubbing compound on it trying to get the scratches out of it, it was alot better when i finished but still not perfect!!lmao
aye thats the best bet...cover the car in shampoo then go wash it with your own sponke/mf mitt/lambswool mitt....that is if you use a jet wash.lmao

seems a few people have gone to the meguiars seminars, lol
i wouldnt go near my car the presure washers or brush washers, they both scratch the fook out of it
a gentle timely hose down to get the water under as much grit as possible is much better imo...
