    faded plastic

Is there any way of getting colour back into red plastic thats gone faded?
It's the front fairing of a quad that i have bought, so it is not painted it is just red plastic that has gone white.
is there any way at all of getting it red again?
    Thanks in advance

If it's coloured plastic then I shouldn't think you'll be able to bring the colour back out like you would with paint. I might suggest T-Cut, but have no idea if it would work - and if the plastic has gone almost white, I think there's no chance.

Personally, I'd take it off (and maybe the matching fairings at the same time), rub them down, couple of coats of plastic primer, then spray them up with the colour of your choice.

    Hope this helps,
    Greg

Thanks mate I tryed t-cut and it didnt even look at it and I dont wan't to go down the painting route because with the flex in the fairings it will probably carck and peel within weeks.I was sure I had heard someone say something about using a heat gun to bring the colour back into it.....Has anyone else ever heard this?

Heat gun is good for the black trim on cars but no idea if it would work with colored, give it a wee try on a part not always seen and report back

Surely you are only pulling it one way though? ie. you are pulling it along its length.

    Re: faded plastic

heat gun should work on coloured plastic if its just faded from the sun, if its got white marks from where its been bent out of shape it wont work.

It is only faded from the sun, there is none of these white marks where it has been bent, so heres hoping it works!

    Re: faded plastic

Some felt tip pen inks can penetrate plastics and retain the colour and hard to wipe off clean after even with best cleaners. so might be worth trying it with large permanent ink felt tips, remove the ink sack that holds the ink and use that to wipe it over and leave it for a while and go over and over a few times until you get a smooth finish.

And then use other methods as the one above this post like oiling it to make it shine.

It can and might well do, as it feeds oil back in to the plastic.

    Re: faded plastic

lol hummin quad :P. if you gently rub cellulose thinners into the plastics ( careful not to remove bobbly pattern), then lightly spray. Leave to dry and then spray again. Helps make the paint "stretch". Might prevent the cracking etc, its how i sprayed a vinyl seat on my mbike.
