    Question Shoe polish

My bumpers have gone from black to gray and someone has told me to use shoe polish instead of b2b, as b2b only lasts about a week.

    Anybody any thoughts on this?

Autoglym does the trick for me.

Gonna try it on my shoes now.

It might work, give it a go. However, I would be inclined to try in a small area first to make sure.

Also you could try heating the plastic with a hot air gun, that sometimes works too. The thing is, nearly all bumper dressings are water based. So, obviously it can wash away/leave streeking on the bumpers when it rains.

Don't use engine oil - I was told once by some professor dude (really) that engine oil is electrostatic, or something, - meaning it will attract dirt.

My mate has used 3in1 oil on his Paxo for about 2 years now and the trim still looks great. If you want to use oil, use this, but try a small bit first.

Better still spend some money on the proper stuff (Autoglym)

I have just been out cleaning my car and I would also recommend the Autoglym bumpercare product, it is a funny green colour, but it works a treat.

I can't see how the rain would wash your shoe polish off because it is wax-based isn't it?

You'll just have to be careful that you don't rub past it and get it on your clothes.

I've tried WD40 before and it worked ok. I'm using 'Car Plan Black Trim Wax' at the moment. It's a bit messy to put on but it seems to last a good few weeks.

    AAARGH!!

I should check in here more often! I was going to say whatever you do, don't use shoe polish, but it's too late!

Have a look at how lovely and black the bumpers are on my wife's car.....(Pic taken a couple of days after we bought it in may)

The first time I washed the car, when I washed the bumpers it ruined my sponge, left me with all sorts of black goopy crap all over it.

If you look at the bumpers now, they are your normal "10 year old, never been treated, horrible grey colour" Astra bumpers. Except they are worse than that, because they are all streaky and horrible. I'm gonna have to spend quite a while with the old Autoglym Bumper care stuff to get them looking presentable again.

Not 100% sure if it was shoe polish on there when we bought it, but it was the first thing I thought of when I washed it for the first time.
Hey, you! Out there on the road always doing what you're told, can you help me?

surely the best way is to clean the bumpers, and give 'em a dusting of satin black or similar

Why not just get them bumpers colour coded..???

Then you can use wax polish to shine them instead if shoe polish..

I'd like a set of phase 2 bumpers, but other things need doing first (CVs and poss some clutch stuff) so hopefully the shoe polish thing is just a stop gap.
