Vandalism - Removing a line of spray paint.

One of my colleagues had her Audi TT vandalised last night. Someone has sprayed a line of yellow spray paint down one side from the front to the back.

Is there anything that can remove it or is it liable to take the paint / laquer too??

    Any help greatly appreciated.

    Cheers
    Martin

Small bit of thinners should do it, and not harm the original paint?

Was only last nite so should be easy enough to get off

Someone maybe confirm the thinners part!

a cutting compound like g3 or the equivalent will get it off. you will just have to re apply any polish/wax to the car afterwards. as for thinners, there is a chance of damaging the paintwork

Cheers guys. I will pass on the info.

G3 etc has got to be worth a try. Actually anything is, rather than booking in a respray straight away.

Thinners to get the bulk off then finish off with t-cut. Then polish back up.

Just throwing another idea here. Will giving the panels a wipe over with fairly warm soapy water help any before using thinners? Soften the spray paint that was used?

Thanks for the help so far folks

I'd try a clay bar - the meguires product info suggests that it can be used to clear overspray.

You can get just a 100g clay bar from ebay for about £6

    Cheers James,

I've a Megs kit at home that has a claybar. Will take it into work tomorrow along with various polishes etc.

Not really, it's more likely to cause problems as the water residues and thinners won't mix.

As said before thinners will remove the aerosol paint as they are 1K (dry by thinner evaporating) where as the original paint work is 2k which uses a chemical reaction to go off.. You will likely have to give it a good buff and polish afterwards but should be okay...

Don't get too carried away though as normal thinners does take off 2-pack paint, I removed some overspray on my window this way when my car came back from the bodyshop.

Any "Try the thinners somewhere inconspicuous somewhere first" gen?

I'd go with a clay bar (in whatever compound you need) first.

Wow, these are great tips. My neighbor had something like this happen last month. Do you think these tricks will still work even though it's been sitting for a little while?

most thinners would work , personally i would not use t cut end off , ammonia in it and its very aggresive on paint work now very old technollogy now , use a fine 3m polish or farrecla polish , should wipe of easy with thinners, 2 clothes little thinners on 1 clothe wipe on use other cloth and wipe off,

OK. Tried the clay bar. Some yellow staining on the clay but it shifted very little of the paint.

Going to try thinners and see what happens. On the inside of the boot first just incase

i would just use a bit of cutting compound on a machine,2-3 passes and it`ll be gone then a quick coat of polish job done.
