what is the best way to Cleaning my calipers and paint?

As i am in the middle of renovating my front brakes, new discs, etc, it about time I also cleaned my rusty looking calipersb and have them painted as they do show considerably through the wheel spokes,

how best to clean them? remember I haven't got access to shot or sand blast machines, can I use just a wire brush mounted ina drill and remove as much rust as possibble and then spray pain one of them 500deg C temperature resitant paint, and what coulour would look best for my Green Calibra? yellow would certainly go with green, but how about red? I don't have to pain the inner side just the outer that is exposed to the sight from the outside.

ideally i would not like to disconnect any hydraulic pipes, hate beleeding, mind you I also need to change the fluid to new one any way.

LOL!! Nearly 4 hours and I take it the answer is leave the cleaning and painting the calipers alone unless I am gay!! or going for Brambo 4 pot calipers!!! that would be double gay!! lol

wire brush on a drill does a great job. Just make sure you got good eye protection on!! and just get some hammerite, dont bother with high temp spray, brush on hamerite will easy last a good few years and withstands the temperature just fine from my experience. gives a grat finish and is easy to apply too.
Want good quality mirror finish smoked rear lights for you car? drop me a pm.

I recently bought some grey hammerite pain for another application (painting some warm air ducting work) due to corrosion attack, I followed instructions on the can not to stir, but still the paint outcome was flat, it did not have that special hammerite effect like ripple effect.

What colour would you suggest, yellow or blue or red?

It might have been, I got a small tin from halfords. I have it somewhere and have a look if it was. It came out same as a normal paint finish i.e. smooth instead of the usual hammeritr effect.

Re: what is the best way to Cleaning my calipers and paint?

hammeright has 2 different sytles, smooth and the normal one which is all crackly and looks like powder coating just go for smooth on the calipers and use a wire brush on a drill (like alex said)...if you can remove the caliper is even better, otherwise just unbolt and move it off so that you dont have to rebleed the system and also paint the back too
i sendz warningz...i haz uber phailz. How duz the dipstik werk????111!

Please dont do it yellow, or red, I think you should go for the colour your car is, I dont want to say it as its a colour that I dont think should exist! lol

Or even better idea, paint the calipers red, then the rest of the car to match it too? Il even give you a hand?

if your replacing the disks and pads anyways just splash it on now, give it a really good coat and doesnt matter if you go on the disk seeing as your replacing them anyways!

i would go black, no point making small standard brakes stand out imo

Yes I was thinking of doing the wire brushing while it is still bolted on solidly and I can use both hands to grip the drill and guide the wire brush around, since the old discs and pads are going to be discarded any way.

Thanks again. I rememeber someone posted the goodness of using white vinegar to remove rust, so I was condsidering possibly dipping the calipers in vinegar having taken out the pistons and other rubber components, that vineagar cleaned a rusted part and turned it into a brand new looking and then it can be painted andn the paint is likely to not flake out!!

But I must try that vinegar magic first on something rusty to see if it really works as claimed.

I always wanted to paint my wheels Gold, as in subrus, they really go with them cars. And I am sure they can go well with my green calibra.

I duno, Im not a fan of any wheels that arent crome or silver. I dont mind the black with outer steel on black cars, definitly not a fan of white wheels! lol

If you painted them gold they might not go with your yellow or red calipers! lol

Not going for red calipers, I decided to keep them silver to go with my silver wheels, but they can be painted gold if my wheels were to go gold.
