Got mine stripped at a place that re-furbs alloy wheels, they put it in their acid tank for a few mins and it came out better than you will ever get it!! Ive tried the nitromors route before, nightmare IMO.

Agree mate, the standard coating is a mare to remove, nitromorse did not touch it in places, had to take it to work and bead blast it, as the nitromorse left it in a right state!

Re: xe cam cover best way to remove old paint

Laddo at work had an XE cam cover that he wanted to strip back to metal, shot blasting it took all the loose flaking bits off but wouldn't really budge the rest of it, he ended up using NitroMorse, had to put a good few coats on it tho to get every last bit off.
Looked a pain in the ar*e to do !!

Re: xe cam cover best way to remove old paint

Your right Rich, bead blasting it has still left me with bits of coating! had another go tonight, still no joy! will break out the nitromorse again to remove the stubborn parts! acid tank would be ideal.

From some one who has stripped and polished countless covers. Acid dipping is the only way...

Re: xe cam cover best way to remove old paint

Acid dipping gets my vote (this is how mine was done!)

Bead/sand blasting could leave lots of little bits in the rocker cover which once fitted will get into your oil and jigger your engine rather quickly.

I would have just put more nitromors on.. in a thicker coat and left it to do its job.. but if never get everything off

I tried the nitromorse as you have said a fair few times, trust me, it would not shift alot of the std powder coat! it was solid.

Nitromorses will struggle against power coating.
