Aye, used Hammerite a few times on engine blocks without any probs. The brush on stuff is what you need.

    Re: engine block paint

ive used brake caliper paint twice, 1 small tin is enough for 2-3 coats of the block plus it leaves enough for the calipers. as its meant for brakes it with stands the heat and oils/dirt etc. but follow the directions to the letter, i painted 2 coats well then left it till next day and the 3rd coat bubbled, the tin said to leave it 15mins or 6 weeks between coats!!!!!!!

    Re: engine block paint

please dont waste your money on anything other than hammerite, its cheap and does the job very well, and has no problems with the heat. ive used it on engine blocks and brake calipers and its lasted years. The most important thing is the preperation, make sure the surface your paiting is clean with no bits of oil, dirt etc. engine degreaser and a wire brush and your sorted

    Re: engine block paint

top tip though dont buy rubber hose paint, i ordered some a few years back from hal**rds, at £25 i thought it would look better than standard and cheaper the proper hoses, how wrong was i, a tiny 200ml tin arrived, and buy the time the hoses started to look blue i ran out, very reluctantly bought tin 2 and just finished the job, wont do that again.

Use a spray gun and dilute hamerite with thinners/brake cleaner etc and spray on. Comes out with an excellent hard wearing finish.

    Re: engine block paint

dont rush the cleaning, painting onto oil just doesnt work. dont forget the pics once youve done it. how about silver for the box and rocker cover, too many colours just get messy, saves a few quid on a paint can aswell.

    Re: engine block paint

glad i could help, dont forget to do the mounts silver aswell, and the inlet manifold if you can see it, a simple 2 tone engine bay looks good i think.

if i knew how to upload pics id show you mine, silver/blue.

    Re: engine block paint

thanks for vote of confidence shaun lol my engine mount came today from lmf £40 bloody rip-off

in going to strip down the inlet manifold and degrease it and prime it and paint it up then re-fit i think its gunna take a good 5-6 hrs fo me to do the

    1- engine block
    2- gearbox
    3- inlet manifold
    4- exhaust manifold
    5- all engine/gearbox mounts
    6- rocker/cam covers

so im needing white primer&silver rocker/cam cover paint exhaust manifold paint

ive got the satin black hammerite engine block paint

i wont need to give the engine a good coating of clear but what about the g/box?

    Re: engine block paint

if the gearbox has even a little corrosion on it the paint will be attacked from underneath anyway , no matter how well you prep it.so dont bother with the laquer. besides if your engine bay is anything like mine you wont see much of the gearbox anyway.
