cleaning and painting gearbox?

Whats the best thing to clean up a gearbox and also best paint to paint them with?

I guess use a degreaser like gunk etc and hammerite will go on well

i pressure washed mine then brushed gunk on, pressure washed gunk off and painted with matt black heat proof paint.
did the same with my engine exept i wire brushed the engine as well

Make sure you get it clean as poss, wire brush it well and degrease and clean with thinners and meths. If you leave any dirt the paint with not adhere...
