In very simple terms polish removes a thin layer of paint and wax gives a protective coating. The idea is that once you have removed the 'bad' paint with polish, regular application of wax should protect the new exposed layer of paint meaning that polishing is required far less frequently from then on.

Aye - hence why the Meguiars 3 stage stuff is so good (though, granted, not cheap either).

That's what I mean mate - stage 1 "fixes" the paint, stage 2 polishes and stage 3 protects.

Polish is a cutting compound, just usually a fine one.

I am not familiar with the Megs 3 stage but I assume that Stage 1 is a coarser compound to remove fine scratches, swirls, etc, Stage 2 will be a fine compound to remove the tiny scratches left by stage 1 and stage 3 is a wax to protect the paint.

Sure if I'd have run round it later on it might have come off. Just doesn't seem to 'set'.
Always used to use the Turtlewax extreme polishing wax, great stuff, little dusty though.
Can't beat this Meguiars wax for sealing it, weird seeing the water on paintwork after sponging, just totally hard and glass like.

Cheers for the offer by the way, have done a clutch on my car, so surely to god I can get the hang of waxing the bloody thing lmao

i love the water beading look, even when washing it it beads up and you can just wipe it off,

    Yeah, just absolutely awesome.
Turtlewax gave very good small beading, but doesn't touch this for the smoothness to the touch, dirt doesn't stand much chance of grabbing on
(flies seem to stretch several inches on the bonnet now though) lmao

rite i can c a trend here, with polishing dark colours.the problem seems 2 b that its getting rite in2 the paintwork, specialy on flat surfaces.now this is what i think i can suggest as the best solution speaking from experiance.only polish on cool surfaces and out the sun.use clean applicator pads and pukka clothes, regularly turning ova and ond only apply thin layers.starting with a circular motion lightly and finishing with straight lines 2 give even coverage.i find putting the bonnet up and bootlid helps.
