Make sure you get a 'random orbit' type.

you can use an electric sander, B&D do those cheap, any one with a low RPM will do fine.
Note: the above may or may not be entirely correct.
I wondered why the frisbee was getting bigger, and then it struck me.

PC - Porter Cable 7424 (click me)

This is the one i'm getting to liven up the paint on my car, there's nothing like it available in the UK, it's a Random Orbit polisher, everything else is Rotary - this is bad becasue a novice could very easily burn their paint in less than 3 seconds.

The 7424 is a serious peice of equipment though, it's supposed to be very easy to use well, and MANY enthusiasts use it to get their paint looking better than factory.

If you just wanted something to make polishing easier there's probably no point shelling out $180 (you'll have to buy it in America - HERE) plus the bits you'll need to get it working on UK electricity which will run about another £50.

If however like me you have an older flame red car, this is what you need!

DO NOT get a high speed rotary polisher (or a sander and then put polishing bonnetts on it) if you have never used one before. Halfords and such places will be able to sell you a slow speed one that might help in normal polishing/waxing - but probably wont get any better results than doing it by hand.
