cleaning xe cam cover

Ive got some king of ground in dirt on the cam cover and wanted to know what other ppl use to clean them up so there are more or less polished as per original...?

Ive tried to use a metal polish but although it as taken the initial top lair of grime off its still got that ground in dirt.

get some tinners/degreaser to clean all the dirt off before polishing
