| Polished XE cam cover! Went down to the guildford cruise tonight, saw 'Mental Mel', shes rather mental, and has a very nice mk2 gte i might add.
Anyway, i saw an astra gsi pull up with a pearl paint job and lovely this and that.....its actually a LET, not an XE....so i felt a bit of a prat there.
He asked if i wanted a look at the engine, so i agreed and the first thing i noticed was the polished chrome rocker cover.
I asked him who done it, and he said he done it himself by getting a standard cover....rubbing it down from 40 grit to 1200 grit wet + dry paper, then polishing it
It looked awesome, so i decieded i'm going to do that to my spare one i got knocking about here
Might even do the cam belt case aswell |

| Re: Polished XE cam cover! the L shaped spark plug cover?
i thought it was plastic looking at mine . . . lol my attention is terrible!
but as to his process i did it to my bikes exhaust took HOURS to do but came up a mirror finish, easy to do
As the guy said just sand it down with medium and then very fine sand paper then get out the autosol and polish like hell.
P.S your arm will be in SO much pain afterwards!

| Re: Polished XE cam cover! I've just polished one i bought off Brett, took a drill wheel to it which got the rough stuff off then bought a couple of flap wheels for the drill which do a great job of getting it smooth and reasonably shiny. Didnt bother with the wet and dry as i've not sprayed it. TBH i dont like em, they tend to border on dirty/half cleaned when i see them. Much prefer chromed or painted. |

She is a very nice girl, was bloody funny though. I was standing about talking to some bloke about his car and i noticed mel's car opposite but didn't wanna go over incase it wasn't her. So then i get a txt saying 'What car are you in' So i looked at her in the gte and pointed to my cav She went head in hands then.
Was pretty good down there last night, only 2 astra gsi's and i think only the 1 gte |

| Re: Polished XE cam cover! if you see tonysri engine bay, his is flat and polished, I just set it up in the mill and milled the top down removing the writing, then he polished it, looks very good and easy to do
