Dear Windows Vista

**** you!

Seriously, what the hell. I've been given a brand new computer, only thing the owners have installed on it are the printer drivers and that's it. They couldn't install the wireless (due to not having the driver CD) so asked me to have a look. Opening or doing ANYTHING takes about 10-30 seconds, opening windows explorer is like trying to pull off on a hill in 4 gear in the astra. Gets there eventually but my god you can hear the engine struggle in the mean time.

I mentioned putting XP on the machine, as it would run 200% faster and i could probably format and install and setup XP in the amount of time it would take to just install the wireless drivers. Surprisingly the couple jumped at the chance

I'd like to share a folder across the network so i can back up the photo's. Right click on folder, click sharing, put the dot in "share this folder", wait about an hour, "windows cannot share this folder" and that's all i get. Really helpful Tried to play with the control panel settings but takes so long to load anything i've reached for the usb memory stick.

It's formatting at the moment, goodbye vista is all i can say

Re: Dear Windows Vista

Shutting off the 'fancy graphics' which take an unreasonable amount of system resources usually helps but having fixed a few Vista boxes now, I heartily agree that it is a general shower of s**t that makes ME look usable.

Re: Dear Windows Vista

Meh, XP is halfway through being installed now. Also got a small little partition set aside for Ubuntu to be installed next as i'll probably have to go down and fix it again at some point in the future so might as well have a back up to gain access to the pictures etc they want saving

At least this computer doesn't have home made "videos" on it saved in a folder called "XXX" on the root like the last one i dealt with. Real classy stuff from what i saw, some 40yr old polish bloke in womans underwear.

Dear Belkin

**** you

Trying to install the USB wireless adapter, and there's 2 different sites with the same "version 4" of driver's

http://www.belkin.com/support/articl...=5925&scid=223
Contains drivers for the F5D9050 wireless adapter

http://www.belkin.com/uk/support/art...id=6222&scid=0
Also contains drivers for the F5D9050 wireless "adpater"

Except when both files are installed, or manually extracted, there's no actual windows drivers present and it's still listed as a "USB device"

I'm gonna feel pretty daft returning the computer saying "i can't get the wireless working though"

Oh well, lets see if i can find some 3rd party drivers that actually work

Re: Dear Windows Vista

The v3 drivers actually install the USB adapter, and now it's working.

I hadn't thought of contacting belkin about it, think i'll drop them an email tomorrow probably saying exactly what i said about and expanding it a bit.

How very true

Totallt agree with you, tried installing Belkin wireless crap and it wouldnt have it. Tried their online Help Desk feature and was talking to a couple of their tech staff. But they didnt know and they wernt particularly helpful. One of them actually cut me off coz she couldnt help.

So Belkin, **** you indeed.
