With Sumvision's Speed Plug you can turn the existing electric wires in your home or office into a high-speed network. You don't have to install network cables and be annoyed with cables trailing through your house - just use your building's existing mains wiring network!

| Re: Internet through the mains Yes, they work.
BT and Eircom over here are now shipping them with all their 'BT Vision' bollox. They work pretty well in most houses, are 10 times more reliable than wireless anyway... not that that's hard...
Bit expensive for what they are, but they should do your job well. The ones I've used have an additional plug socket on the outside so you can plug something else into them, and don't have to loose a mains socket.
Cheapest option is to just run a Cat5 cable from your router mind you...

| Re: Internet through the mains Yeah the cable option isn't viable, totally other side of the house from where the router is. |

| Re: Internet through the mains I nicked my neighbours BT vision one's to test them in my house, worked fine down into my bedroom which is on a different power circuit but they were cheap and nasty, couldn't really watch video's from my computer properly when they were in 2 sockets next to each other let alone down the other end of the house, i estimated i was getting >4mbits bandwidth.
Get decent quality ones
And they're piss easy to set up. Plug into socket, plug ethernet cable from router to plug. Plug into another socket, plug ethernet cable from plug to computer. Job done |

| Re: Internet through the mains Can get them for £44 on ebay now.
I got some 200mb ones, not the 85mb ones.
I have been told that they may not work if you have more than one mains ring at home, how do you test for that? |

I have a pair of the Netgear "HD" ones. They stream 1080P video with 5.1 sound perfectly fine.
About 100000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 times better than wireless. |

Thats why im unsure on these, yeah they are a quite mature technoligy but you have to ask yourself why has it taken 10 years to get to a usable point and will they just die out in a few years time? I think they wont last long as they use a network topoligy/technoligy which was phased out a good while ago, and for good reason. |
